My grandfather Robert Boardman’s parents were Edmund and Charlotte McMurray Boardman.
This portrait picture of my great grandparents was given to me by my cousin who is their great-granddaughter.
According to a piece of notebook paper I found among my mother’s possessions, Edmund Boardman was born in Lancashire, England; however, the exact town is in question. On his death certificate it has “Rochester,” which is in Kent Co., England. What I have for his birthdate is the 23 of May, 1848. He died on the 18th of October 1908 in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. He is buried in the Elmwood Cemetery in Winnipeg.
Charlotte McMurray was born on the 13th of October 1855. Several locations have been given for her birthplace but it was probably in Kent County, New Brunswick. She died on 1 July, 1938 in Pasadena, Los Angeles County, California and is buried in the Forest Lawn Cemetery in Glendale, California near her son William T. Boardman. My great-grandmother migrated a long distance over her lifetime.
The marriage of Charlotte and Edmund has not been found at this time. In the 1871 Canadian Census for Welford Parish, Kent Co., New Brunswick, Charlotte is living with her parents and siblings. She is about 14 years old. Edmund is nearby listed in the New Brunswick Directory for 1871 as a machinist in Shediac, Westmorland, New Brunswick. He is about 23 years old. I am getting close to the marriage.
