Arthur was the youngest (living) son of Richard and Emma Brown. He was born Nov. 29, 1883 per the Manitoba Vital Statistics online database. He was baptized in the St. John’s Anglican Church on the 29th of June, 1890 along with his older brother Charles and sister Ethel. The baptismal record #79 gives his birthday as 29 Nov. 1883 and his parents as Richard and Emma Brown.
From 1905 to about 1911, per Winnipeg City Directories, Arthur worked at the Clarke Bros. & Co. Ltd.
In the 1906 census he was living with his father Richard. Ethel is listed along with Robert Boardman as well. See the previous post.
Arthur is living with his father in the 1916 census and we learn Richard and Arthur names have been mixed up with Arthur listed as “Richard?”

Arthur Ward Brown married Theresa Ploeger in Winnipeg on the 10th of June 1914. They had according to my knowledge three children:
1. Richard Arthur Cornelius Brown born about 1915 in Winnipeg and died in Winnipeg on 15 Aug 1972. He is buried in the St. John Cemetery in Winnipeg. I know that he was in Winnipeg in 1935 to 1936 at 106 Niagara. I have no other information on Richard.
The photo above had written on the backside: ” Teresa Brown and son,” but the son was not identified.
Update: A cousin does not think it is a son that is in the photo with Teresa. Also it is Theresa per another cousin.
2. William Brown was born about 9 April 1920 in Winnipeg. He died on the 30 January 1991 in Redlands, San Bernardino, California. William married and has descendants.
UPDATE August 26, 2012 – According to a descendant of William. He did not die in Redlands but instead passed in Yreka, CA about 5 years ago. His wife followed him about 11 months later.
3. Georgina Brown her birthdate is unknown. Apparently she traveled a lot and lived in New York at some point? She did marry and has descendants.
Arthur’s wife Theresa Ploeger came from Jisp, Noord-Holland, Netherlands. She was born on 17 Nov. 1884 and died in Winnipeg on 26 July 1969 and is buried in the St. John’s Cemetery. She probably immigrated from the Netherlands about 1907 and the census indicates she was naturalized. The Winnipeg City Directories list her from 1949-1950 living with Arthur W. in Winnipeg. I learned that Theresa was a singer and sang in the St. Cecelia Lakes Choir.
Most of the information about Arthur and his family is from his obituary notice which will be featured in the next post.
Descendants of Arthur and Theresa are still living. If you would like further information about Arthur and Theresa’s family please make a comment or contact the compiler.
NOTE: I will be traveling in the month of August. In order to devote my time and efforts to the trip, I will be taking a break from this blog and will resume writing in the Fall! I will be working on my father’s side on the trip and this blog, Boardman and Browns, covers my mother’s side so you may or may not be interested but here is the link:
